Main item's material: cardstock

Main item's features: design on both sides, square corners and placeholder data already present as shown in the image on the left. Photograph is printed on photographic paper and glued on the ID card. The "1979 Edition" is available in two different font styles. As a standard, placeholder data (or the ones provided with the "customization" option) come in "font style 1" unless a different font is selected (see picture on the left for a comparison of available fonts).

Main item's description: ID card issued by the National Military Establishment (NME) / Department of Defense (DOD) to reserve military personnel belonging to the US Air Force for identification purposes during the early 1950s-early 1990s. For reference, this was the ID card carried by military personnel during the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War.

Remarks: the main differences among the variations of the main item can be summarized as follows ("Editions" years indicate the year the ID was officially established/changed):
  • NME form 2AF(RES), 1949 Edition: first version of the ID, branch name reads "U. S. AIR FORCE RESERVE" a statement on the backside reads "INACTIVE SERVICE ONLY".
  • DD form 2AF(RES), 1959 Edition, Series 1: the form name is changed to reflect the name change of the issuer (National Military Establishment becoming the Department of Defense); the postmaster return address and the Department of the Air Force seal's design are changed; branch name changed to read "RESERVE OF THE AIR FORCE"; the above statement disappears from the backside, whose design is now uniformed with other Active Duty, National Guard and Retired Air Force IDs.
  • DD form 2AF(RES), 1959 Edition, Series 2: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • DD form 2AF(RES), 1959 Edition, Series 3: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • DD form 2AF(RES), 1959 Edition, Series 4: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • DD form 2AF(RES), 1959 Edition, Series 5: the "Service Number" field is changed to read "SSAN".
  • DD form 2AF(RES), 1979 Edition: change of design and purpose of the card, which now also serves as Geneva Conventions ID card thus replacing the Geneva Conventions Identification Card (DD form 528) issued separately until then.
