Main item's material: cardstock

Main item's features: design on both sides, square corners and placeholder data already present as shown in the image on the left. Photograph is printed on photographic paper and glued on the ID card. The "1974 Editions" are available in three different font styles. As a standard, placeholder data (or the ones provided with the "customization" option) come in "font style 1" unless a different font is selected (see picture on the left for a comparison of available fonts).

Main item's description: ID card issued by the Department of Defense (DOD) to active duty combatant military personnel belonging to the US Air Force for identification purposes during the early 1950s-early 1990s. For reference, this was the ID card carried by military personnel during the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War.

Remarks: the main differences among the variations of the main item can be summarized as follows ("Editions" years indicate the year the ID was officially established/changed):
  • 1950 Edition: first version of the ID, branch name reads "AIR FORCE OF THE U.S." and the verbiage on the backside reads "ACTIVE SERVICE ONLY".
  • 1952 Edition: branch name changed to read "UNITED STATES AIR FORCE".
  • 1959 Edition, Series 1: the postmaster return address and the Department of the Air Force seal's design are changed and the above statement disappears from the backside, whose design is now uniformed with other National Guard, Reserve and Retired Air Force IDs.
  • 1959 Edition, Series 2: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • 1959 Edition, Series 3: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • 1959 Edition, Series 4: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • 1959 Edition, Series 5: the "Service Number" field is changed to read "SSAN".
  • 1974 Edition, Series 1: change of design and purpose of the card, which now also serves as Geneva Conventions ID card thus replacing the Geneva Conventions Identification Card (DD form 528) issued separately until then.
  • 1974 Edition, Series 2: the Department of the Air Force seal's design is changed.
  • 1974 Edition, Series 3: the postmaster return address is changed.
The only difference between the main item and the corresponding "Editions" of the US Air Force ID card, Active Duty medical personnel (DD form 2AF), 1950s-1970s consists in the apposition on the latter of a red bordered cross on the backside which reads "MEDIC" in the middle.
