Main item's material: cardstock

Main item's features: design on both sides, square corners and placeholder data already present as shown in the image on the left. Photograph is printed on photographic paper and glued on the ID card.

Main item's description: ID card issued by the National Military Establishment (NME) / Department of Defense (DOD) to military personnel belonging to the US Army National Guard for identification purposes during the early 1950s-1970s. For reference, this was the ID card carried by military personnel during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Remarks: the main differences among the variations of the main item can be summarized as follows ("Editions" years indicate the year the ID was officially established/changed):
  • NME form 2A(NG), 1948 Edition: first version of the ID, a statement on the backside reads "NATIONAL GUARD SERVICE ONLY".
  • DD form 2A(NG), 1949 Edition: the form name is changed to reflect the name change of the issuer (National Military Establishment becoming the Department of Defense).
  • DD form 2A(NG),1959 Edition, Series 1: the above statement disappears from the backside, whose design is now uniformed with other Active Duty, Reserve and Retired Army IDs.
  • DD form 2A(RES),1959 Edition, Series 2: the postmaster return address is changed.
  • DD form 2A(RES),1959 Edition, Series 3: the "Service Number" field is changed to read "SERVICE NUMBER / SSAN".
