NYPD insignia placement

The following images display the correct placement of the NYPD insignia you can download or purchase.

Long sleeves shirt, 70s-80s

In 70s-80s sets of the NYPD, insignia are worn as follows on the long sleeves shirt:

- One NYPD patch, worn on left sleeve approximately 3/4 inch (or 2 cm) from the shoulder seam.
- If present, Sergeant chevrons are worn approximately 3/4 inch (or 2 cm) under the NYPD patch, at the same height on both arms.
- Two collar numbers worn on the collar: one per side, each one centered, parallel to the ground, approximately 1/2 inch (or 1 cm) from the bottom.
- Ranks of Lieutenant and above wear their respective rank in vice of the collar numbers: one per side of the collar, each one centered, parallel to the ground, approximately 1/2 inch (or 1 cm) from the bottom.
- One badge set with nametag, worn above the right pocket, centered.
- One tieclip worn in the middle of the tie.

A solid light blue dress shirt with dark blue trousers, dark blue tie and black shoes is worn. If a belt is worn, it should be of black or other dark color.





Short sleeves shirt, 70s-80s

In 70s-80s sets of the NYPD, insignia are worn as follows on the short sleeves shirt:

- One NYPD patch, worn on left sleeve approximately 3/4 inch (or 2 cm) from the shoulder seam.
- If present, Sergeant chevrons are worn approximately 3/4 inch (or 2 cm) under the NYPD patch, at the same height on both arms.
- Two collar numbers worn on the collar: one per side, each one centered, parallel to the ground, approximately 1/2 inch (or 1 cm) from the bottom.
- Ranks of Lieutenant and above wear their respective rank in vice of the collar numbers: one per side of the collar, each one centered, parallel to the ground, approximately 1/2 inch (or 1 cm) from the bottom.
- One badge set with nametag, worn above the right pocket, centered.

Tie is not worn with the short sleeves shirt. A solid light blue dress shirt with dark blue trousers and black shoes is worn. If a belt is worn, it should be of black or other dark color.
